The WCED has outlined the Application dates and timeline for applying to schools within its jurisdiction, emphasising the dates for learners from Grade R to Grade 8 as well as those requesting transfer.
WCED Admission Application Dates
- Grades 1 and 8 Applications: The application window for Grades 1 and 8 opened on March 11, 2024, and closes on April 12, 2024. Parents or guardians can save and return their applications at any time, but they must submit them by the closing date.
- Grade R Applications: For Grade R, the application period is set from August 1 to August 16, 2024.
- Transfer Requests: Applications for transfer requests for Grades 2–7 and 9–12 are treated differently. They should be submitted as hard copies directly to the school or district office between August 1 and August 16, 2024.
- Confirmation of Placement:
- For Grades 1 and 8, acceptance of placements must be confirmed between May 29 and June 14, 2024.
- For transfers and Grade R, confirmations must be done from September 17 to September 30, 2024.
- If multiple applications are successful, and no confirmation is received by June 14, 2024, the WCED will automatically confirm the first successful application as per the parent’s or guardian’s ranking.
Parents and guardians are urged to pay close attention to these dates to ensure they meet all the necessary deadlines for the successful submission and confirmation of school applications. This proactive approach will contribute to a smoother admission process for the academic year.
