How to Register as a Learner (Step by Step Guide)

Here is a step-by-step guide to assist learners in registering for Grade 1 and Grade 8:

  1. Preparation: Before starting the application process, ensure that you have the following items:
    • ID number and password.
    • Contact details, including a cellphone number and e-mail address,.
    • An alternative contact person’s details.
    • Emergency contact information.
    • CEMIS number or any other specified identification number for the learner.
    • Scanned, certified documents, clearly labelled.
  2. Learner Login:
    • Enter the ID number and password at the Parent Login section of the WCED Admission Portal.
    • Select ‘Learner Application’.
  3. Select the Grade and Answer Questions:
    • Choose the correct grade for the application.
    • Answer any on-screen questions about previous schooling in the Western Cape.
  4. New Application:
    • If the learner is new, click on ‘NEW application’.
  5. Complete Learner Profile:
    • Fill in all compulsory fields marked with an asterisk (*).
    • Click ‘Save and Next’.
  6. School Programmes:
    • Select sports, cultural programmes, and leadership roles the learner is involved in.
    • Click ‘Save and Next’.
  7. Select Schools:
    • Search and add schools by name or by Town & Suburb.
    • Add schools to your list, up to 10 per learner application.
  8. Order of Preference:
    • Arrange your selected schools in the desired order of preference.
    • Click ‘Save’.
  9. Document Upload:
    • Upload all required certified documents.
    • Ensure documents are uploaded before the close of admissions on April 12, 2024.
  10. Review and Submit Application:
    • Thoroughly review all entered information for accuracy.
    • Read and agree to the declaration.
    • Click ‘Submit application’. Note that after submission, no changes can be made.

Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation of submission onscreen and an SMS, which includes the learner’s CEMIS number for reference. Use the ‘Track application’ feature to follow the progress of your application.
