The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) Admission Requirements: 2022/2023 for all the courses at the Postgraduate, undergraduate, certificate & diploma level is updated every year.

MUST

Therefore, this article contains the full list of all the diploma, undergraduate and other courses coupled with their general requirements.

For admission into programs of study at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) for any first degree or second degree, an applicant must have the following requirements for successful admission.

MALAWI UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (MUST) ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

General Admission Requirements

The eligible applicants are as follows:

  1. Candidates who completed the MSCE, IGCSE or O Level equivalent in the past three years (2019, 2020 and 2021);
  2. Candidates with  an  Advanced  Subsidiary  (AS)  certificate  or  a  National  Senior  Certificate  (NSC) obtained in the past three years (2019, 2020 and 2021);
  3. Candidates who completed the Advanced (A) Level, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A Level equivalent in the past three years (2019, 2020 and 2021).

NOTE: All those currently enrolled in public universities and those who were withdrawn on academic grounds are NOT eligible to apply.

Programme Information and Entry Requirements

A.      The MSCE applicants must have CREDITS (6 points or less) in SIX subjects including English. In addition, they should have FOUR (4) POINTS OR LESS in each of the following subjects:

1.      Physics         2.  Chemistry         3. Biology  4. Mathematics.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems and Security 4 MST-CSS Required Certificates: MSCE, IGCSE, A- Level or any equivalent.

A.      The MSCE applicants must have CREDITS (6 points or less) in SIX subjects including English. In addition, they should have FOUR (4) POINTS OR LESS in each of the following subjects:

1.      Mathematics  2.  Physics        2. Chemistry

B.      Applicants with IGSCE certificates must have a Grade C, B or A in the following subjects:

1.      English 2.  Physics  3. Chemistry

4. Mathematics.

C.      Applicants with A-Level certificates must have a C Grade in English at IGCSE level and have the following grades for these THREE subjects at A-Level:

1.      Mathematics  2.  Physics        2. Chemistry

B.      Applicants with IGSCE certificates must have a Grade C, B or A in the following subjects:

1.      English 2.  Physics  3. Chemistry

4. Mathematics.

C.      Applicants with A-Level certificates must have a C Grade in English at IGCSE level and have the following grades for these THREE subjects at A-Level:

C.      Applicants with A-Level certificates must have a C Grade in English at IGCSE Level and have the following grades for any THREE of these subjects at A-Level:

Bachelor Science in Food Science and Technology 4 MST-FST Required Certificates: MSCE, IGCSE, A- Level or any equivalent.

A.      The MSCE applicants must have CREDITS (6 points or less) in SIX subjects including English. In addition, they should have FOUR (4) POINTS OR LESS in each of the following subjects:

1.      Physics         2.  Chemistry         3. Biology  4. Mathematics.

B.      Applicants with IGSCE certificates must have a Grade C, B or A in the following subjects:

4.      Biology            –         Minimum C Applicants with A-Level certificate will join in second year.
Bachelor Science in Mathematical Sciences 4 MST-MSC A.      For candidates with an MSCE Certificate, they must have at least credit passes (6 points of less) in English and five other subjects.  In addition, the candidate should have a 4 POINTS OR LESS in each of the following subjects:

1.      Mathematics  2. Chemistry  3. Biology  4. Physics

B.      For candidates with IGSCE certificated, they must have a B Grade in ALL of the following subjects:

1.      Mathematics        2. Chemistry  3. Biology 4. Physics

C.      For A-Level candidates,  they  must have a minimum grade of C in Mathematics, Biology, Physics  and Chemistry. These Candidates will join in Second Year.

Bachelor of Science Education 4 MST-BSED A. For candidates with  MSCE certificate, they must have at least credits (6 points) in SIX subjects including English,  Biology, Chemistry and Physics or General Science, and a grade of no more than four (4) points in Mathematics OR Additional Mathematics 30

Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences (Geology) 4 MST-ESC MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with at least six credit passes including English.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in each of the following subjects: Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Geography for MSCE or C for IGSCE in all the above subjects.

For A-LEVELS, a minimum of Grade C in any three subject combination from the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a strong credit in Geography at O-level (IGCSE). Candidates with A-Levels will join in second year.

Bachelor of Science in Geo- Information and Earth Observation Science 4 MST-GIS MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with at least six credit passes including English, Geography and Mathematics.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in each of any three of the following subjects: Physics AND Chemistry, Computer Science, Biology and Geography for MSCE or C for IGSCE in all the above subjects.

For A-LEVELS, a minimum of Grade C in any three subject combination from the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a strong credit in Geography at O-level (IGCSE). Candidates with A-Levels will join in second year.

Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Climate Science 4 MST-MEC MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with at least six credit passes including English, Mathematics and Geography.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in each of any three of the following subjects: Physics, AND Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and  Agriculture for MSCE or C for IGSCE in all the above subjects.

For A-LEVELS, a minimum of Grade C in any three subject combination from the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a strong credit in Geography at O-level (IGCSE). Candidates with A-Levels will join in second year.

Bachelor of Science in Disaster Risk Management 4 MST-DRM MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with at least six credit passes including English.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in each of the following subjects: Physics, AND Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Geography for MSCE or C for IGSCE in all the above subjects.

For A-LEVELS, a minimum of Grade C in any three subject combination from the following subjects: Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a strong credit in Geography at O-level (IGCSE) for those without Geography at ‘A’ Levels. Candidates with A-Levels will join in second year.

Bachelor of Science in Water Quality and Management 4 MST-WQM MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with at least six credit passes including English.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in each of the following subjects: Physics, AND Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology for MSCE or C for IGSCE in all the above subjects.

For A-LEVELS, a minimum of Grade C in any three subject combination from the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics,     Chemistry,     and     Biology.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in each of the following subjects: Computer Studies, Agriculture, Geography and Biology for MSCE or C for IGSCE in all the above subjects.

For A-LEVELS, a minimum of Grade C in any three subject combination from the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Candidates with A-Levels will join in second year.

Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Resources (Oil and Gas) 4 MST-PETR MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with at least six credit passes including English.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in each of the  following  subjects:  Physics,  AND Chemistry,   Mathematics,   Geography, Biology or Computer Studies for MSCE or C for IGSCE in all the above subjects. For A-LEVELS, a minimum of Grade C in any three subject combination from the following                      subjects:                      Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a strong credit in Geography or Geology at O-level (IGCSE). Candidates with A- Levels will join in second year.

1.      Physics         2.  Chemistry         3. Biology  4. Mathematics.

B.      Applicants with IGSCE certificates must have a Grade C, B or A in the following subjects:

1.      English 2. Physics 3. Chemistry 4 Biology 5. Mathematics.

C.      Applicants with A-Level certificates must have a C Grade in English at IGCSE Level and have the following grades for any THREE of these subjects at A-Level:

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in any three of the following subjects: Creative Arts, Social Studies, Life Skills, Bible Knowledge, History, and Geography or a C Grade for IGCSE in all these subjects.

For A-Level, the candidate must have a minimum grade of ‘C’ in the following subjects: Creative Arts, Social Studies, Life Skills, Bible Knowledge, History, and Geography. Candidates will join in second year.

Bachelor of Arts in African Musicology 4 MST-BAM MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with at least six credit passes including English.

In addition, the candidate should have a grade of no more than 4 in any two of the following subjects: Creative Arts, Social Studies, Life Skills, History, Bible Knowledge, and Geography.

For A-Level, the candidate must have a minimum grade of ‘B’ in the following subjects: Creative Arts, Social Studies, Life Skills, History, Bible Knowledge, and Geography. Candidates will join in second year.

Bachelor of Arts Language, Communication and Culture 4 MST-LCC MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with six credits including English, and a combination of any two of the following subjects: Social Studies, Life Skills, Bible Knowledge, History, Chichewa, and Geography or a B Grade for IGCSE in all or related subjects.

For A-Level, the candidate must have a minimum grade of ‘C’ in the following subjects: Social Studies, Life Skills, History, Bible Knowledge, and Geography. Candidates will join in second year.

Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Economy 4 MST-CEC MSCE Certificate or its equivalent with six credits or a grade C for IGCSE including English and Mathematics, and a   combination   of   any   two   of   the 20
